23 things provided me with an awareness and general knowledge of web2 technologies. I would now consider using these technologies in reference work and work practices.
Chisholm Library service could be improved by using these technologies to help patron's create for example, RSS feeds. Using this technology in workpractices also helps staff keep up to date with technology and remain flexible.
I'm sure I will keep using some of these technologies, Flickr, Google Maps, Delicious, possibly technologies I could use in both my private and working life.
Surprising! I thought web2 technology may be difficult, but I think it is more a mind set. If you are not keen to use computers a lot, you have to think of someway it will benefit you.
I liked the way 23 things was set out. I was fortunate to do it self paced, which warmed me to the program, which mean't I could attend to tasks that needed my immediate attention.
I am in favour of discovery programs like this and would choose to participate in the future.

Thing 22 - Read about Library 2.0

The Library 2.0 movement is targeting a new audience by embarking on new technology which is relevant to users in this tecnological age. The Library 2.0 movement is interactive and values patron participation. Users participate in the creation of the content and services they view within the library's OPAC. Collections and services of Library 2.0 can contain video and audio components. The library 2.0 movement suggests the library collection will change, become more interactive and accessible and the library's service change, fosusing more on information transfer and information literacy rather than controlled access to it.

Signed into iGoogle and added gadgets to homepage. An advantage to web 2 users as it brings tools together and creates a good home page.

Found this to be a really useful tool. Great for overviews of books, and searching and viewing content. As Colin says great for an old or unusual topic and useful in my subject liaison role.

Thing 19 - Play with Google Docs

I created a word and spreadsheet in Google Docs and exported one to my email account. Great for collaborative purposes and using documents on different computers. I think there will always be a place for Microsoft Office desktop suites, especially for people without internet access, but it is a great collaborative and practical tool.

Thing 18 - Play with Google Maps

I found Rosebud campus and my home by typing the address in the search on Google Maps. Used the street icon for a closer view. I used "get directions" mode to plan a holiday, taking in the roads and times to get to destinations. I used the zoom, terrain and satellite features to get a closer look.
Google maps was useful for practical applications and easy to use. I'm sure I will use it in the future

Not something I would have explored without the need to. I find a lot of the material is gimmicky but there are some practical applications.
My Space. Practical applications that libraries used for example an Ask a librarian service where 90 libraries collaborate to provide a service in Florida. Worthington Public Library had an author talking about his book. There were links to catalogues, and links to blogs displaying teenage fiction.
Facebook. I see this mainly as a social network where friends share information. The photos application is apparently superior to Flickr as there is no limit to the number of photos a user can upload. Acceptance by the Supreme Court as a protocol to serve court notices to defendants is an indication that the format is being taken seriously. It can be used as a research tool to gain information by joining online groups that match profiles. I registered on Facebook and looked up some friends.

Thing 16 - Investigate YouTube

I thought there was a lot of information not worthwhile. I looked at the 1970 T.V commercials and recognized YouTube was a way of recording videos for posterity. I looked at the library YouTube videos expecially the tours for example, Tour the library, Your public library, and Tour of Library West at University of Florida. These videos were used for instructional and promotional reasons and I could see them being used in orientations and for some library classes instead of powerpoint.

I created an account in Flickr, took some photos of the library and uploaded one the images with a tag chislib marked public.

A great way to keep a backup of your photographs in an organized way.

Created a delicious account for myself. The reason I would use it is for computers in multiple locations. I also found the categorizing or tagging facility useful, a little like favourites and folders.

Tried to be to clever here, and so was unable to create an account in wetpaint, but once you have created an account it is as easy as editing a word document.

Thing 9 - Read about wikis

A wiki would be great for co-ordinating workgroup activities, good for discussion groups and for adding and editing topics for conferences and meetings.
I liked the way the Book Lovers Wiki feedback from patrons was categorized into sections making it easier to read. It was also interesting looking at the Library Sucess best practice wiki and comparing versions of the wiki over time

Thing 8 - Explore podcasts & vodcasts

A simple task once you know how to subscribe to RSS feeds. I captured the podcast for the ABC radio show "Is it just me" with Angela Catters & Wendy Harmer and copied the Media Watch vodcast address from the ABC website into my RSS feeds. The appeal of podcasts and vodcasts to me is the convenience, you don't have to be free at the time of the broadcast.
